Q: What is the Giants Community Fund and its Junior Giants Program?
A: An organization as public as a baseball team has a unique opportunity to be an informative voice and create partnerships to improve the quality of life in its community. It was that spirit that inspired the Giants to establish the non-profit Giants Community Fund in 1991. Our mission statement is as follows: The Giants Community Fund uses baseball and softball to promote health, education, and character development to propel youth in underserved regions to be positive forces in their communities.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Giants Community Fund realized that our usual outreach to kids would be severely impacted. We were able to convert the Junior Giants program to a virtual format called Junior Giants at Home--a live, video-based program that was developed to keep youth active and connected during these times of isolation.
Our signature program, Junior Giants, has served 375,000 boys and girls over the past 26 years. The Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity, is sustained by contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations and has donated over $33 million to community efforts since 1991.
